We strive for greatness here in our Catholic Schools. Each day our board members, principals, teachers, staff, and other school community members put their full hearts and souls into forming the leaders of tomorrow. And every year, we take time out to specifically celebrate their efforts and the value that Catholic school education in the United States contributes to society as a whole. This year Catholic Schools Week (CSW) falls between January 28 and February 3, and the theme is “Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.”
Everyone here in the Archdiocese of Hartford school community is looking forward to honoring the people and practices that make the excellence happen. Beginning January 28, every day will have a theme, promoted locally by individual schools and parishes utilizing the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) guidelines. The NCEA explains: “Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners, and community members.”
These are the CSW daily themes you’ll see embodied in activities:
Sunday: Celebrating Your Parish
Monday: Celebrating Your Community
Tuesday: Celebrating Your Students
Wednesday: Celebrating the Nation
Thursday: Celebrating Vocations
Friday: Celebrating Faculty, Staff and Volunteers
Saturday: Celebrating Families
This year NCEA has spearheaded a special 24-hour online giving campaign scheduled for January 30 at 9:00 a.m. to January 31 at 9:00 a.m. The “Many Gifts, One Nation” campaign will leverage social media to allow schools to encourage alumni, friends, and community members to give back and financially support their school. This national day of philanthropy gives individuals who have been positively impacted by Catholic school education an opportunity to contribute to the strength of those schools.
You can help your child’s school with Catholic Schools Week in other ways as well. For instance, if you would like to help with decorations and activities, you are very welcome to do so. Reach out to your school’s principal or Home and School Association (HSA) and they’ll get you started. You can also follow all CSW activities on:
Once again this year, we invite you to join the rest of the nation celebrating on social media with the hashtag #CSW18.
Finally, a dozen reminders of why you should choose Catholic schools (although as a parent of a Catholic school student, you don’t need us to tell you these things):
