The purpose of the schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford is to promote lifelong learning that advances the development of the whole person — mind, body, and soul. Our academic curriculum is rooted in that very notion, and our Religion classes within the school day serve as additional guidance in faith formation.
Along with our commitment to integrating faith into our curriculum, we are compelled by our Catholic Identity and Culture to provide religious education for people of all ages, whether or not they attend one of the schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford. Therefore, throughout the Archdiocese of Hartford, the Office of Education, Evangelization and Catechesis (OEEC) provides programs for students in pre-school, K–6, junior high, senior high, and adulthood.
Continuing Catholic Development (CCD), or Faith Formation, classes are designed from a progressive series of lessons covering sacramental preparation and all facets of Catholicism. Through interactive and engaging reading, discussion, crafts, role play, song, and activities, children learn all about living a faith-based life, including the following:
- The Rites and Sacraments:
- First Reconciliation
- First Eucharist
- The Saints
- Bible Studies
- Catholic Identity and Culture
- The Ten Commandments
- The Beatitudes
- Conscious, Mortal, and Venial Sins and Reconciliation
- Catholic Holidays
- Living Stations of the Cross
- Jesus as the Good Shepherd
- The Corporal Works of Mercy
Faith Formation classes not only educate, but also bring our young learners and their families throughout the parish together as a community. However, as we mentioned above, lifelong religious learning takes place over a lifetime, and in order to best serve our community, the following programs are also offered through the OEEC (click on the links to learn more about each one):
- Youth Ministry
- Catholic Scouting
- Young Adult Ministry
- Catholic Biblical School
- The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)/Adult Confirmation
- Lay Ministry
