June is a wonderful time for reflection.  As students graduate from grade to grade, as Sacraments are received for the first time, as faith formation in our parishes occurs we pause and hopefully measure growth, assess failures, and appreciate all of the experiences and opportunities we have had to develop a personal relationship with our loving God.  A world of wonder and expectation awaits you!

As long as you remember what you know to be the truth, you are never alone, because Jesus is with you always. He is merciful and kind, forgiving and gentle. How loving is Jesus who died for us, who opened the gates of heaven for us, who forgives all our sins when we ask for forgiveness, and who walks by our side as our friend at all times.

Let the commandments you were taught give you courage to choose when the choices get tough. Be brave and listen to that voice inside; it will be the Holy Spirit, your trusted guide, always reminding you that the right path leads you to choose what you know is good –trust your heart.

Maria Maynard, Deputy Superintendent

We congratulate all those in the Archdiocese of Hartford who have completed an academic or sacramental milestone, who have received honors from our formation programs or Scouting, and all those beginning new chapters. Be assured of the prayers and well-wishes of the OEEC!

Beyond those end-of-season celebrations, we do not want to forget another important celebration of June: Father's Day. Check out our blog on Saint Joseph and Father's Day, and be sure to wish your fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and "father figures" a very blessed day!

Nicole Perone, Archdiocesan Director of Adult Faith Formation, was elected the president of the New England Conference of Diocesan Directors of Religious Education (NECDDRE). So, How Do We Do It?

The Necessity of Engaging Parents in the Process of Faith Formation: A Workshop for Catechetical Leaders,
Catechists, Youth Ministers & Catholic School Educators

Tuesday, August 27, 2019

Speaker: Maureen P. Provencher, Saint Mary Press
7:00 p.m.
  – 9:00 p.m.

Holy Family Retreat Center

303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford

How do we effectively invite and provide the tools to support and accompany today’s parents?

If you minister to and with children, come and learn why engaging parents in the process of faith formation is not an option, but a necessity. Together, we’ll explore a recent study on Catholic parenting and a number of very practical, and relatively simple ways to engage parents both at church and at home.
Let’s help them connect and belong!

There is no fee for this workshop, but we ask that you register so we can plan the space accordingly. To register, go to our UPCOMING EVENTS page or click here.

Connecting Families to Sacramental Ministries for Children and Youth

2019 National Workshop Series for Catholic Leaders

October 18, 2019

Presented by: Tom East

Center for Ministry Development
8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Hamden

Families are the school of love and the place where children learn to live the truth of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Parishes and Catholic Schools have an opportunity to connect families to the sacramental ministries as children and youth prepare for, celebrate and live out the grace of the sacraments. This workshop will provide vision and practical resources for leaders to know, welcome, engage and empower parents as they share faith and sacramental life with their children.
