A crucial aspect of selecting a school is to make sure the one you are choosing is best suited to your child’s individual needs.
The Office of Catholic Schools understands the gravity of this decision. Our schools enroll 14,222 diverse learners and we know that when it comes to education, one size does not fit all. There are 59 schools: under the Archdiocese of Hartford: 48 (Inter) Parish elementary/middle schools (including 2 solely Pre-K), 2 Private elementary/middle schools, 4 Archdiocesan high schools, and 5 Private high schools. While all of them provide the academic excellence necessary to produce global digital citizens in a Catholic culture, each one offers a little something different, ensuring that within one of our schools, you will find the perfect fit for your child.
Not sure where to begin? The more questions you ask, the better perspective you’ll have on the school and its educational philosophy. That said, here are three things you need to know:
- What programs and services are in place for students who have special needs, from those with difficulty learning to those who need to be challenged?
At the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford, our mission is to grant all students the ability to work up to their potential. Our experienced teachers are well trained in the most up-to-date best teaching practices, including differentiation strategies. Our small classes allow us to address and meet the needs of each individual student. Our test scores and graduation rate are proof of our dedication to this outcome.
- How does the school communicate with parents on a regular basis?
First and foremost, we have an open door policy and pride ourselves on our proven success to partner with parents to support students in their quest for academic and spiritual growth. Each school has a variety of means to reach out to families from Internet parent portals, teacher websites, and newsletters.
- What are the behavioral expectations and how are discipline issues handled?
Catholic schools believe in the importance of structure and discipline in a caring and nurturing environment. Each school has a handbook that specifically explains behavioral expectations and the corresponding disciplinary procedures. We know that learning can only occur in a safe and secure environment, and we will settle for nothing less.
Your child’s education is of utmost importance to us and so is your faith in yourself that you’ve made the right decision. We invite you to make an appointment to visit any of our schools to check them out for yourself. When we do this together, we create a community of learning that will inspire your child throughout life.
