Dr. Spencer Johnson’s parable Who Moved My Cheese is an amusing story of 2 mice and 2 little people, no larger than mice. They all four lived in a Maze where each day they sought the right path to finding the cheese. The cheese is a metaphor for all that life has to offer. The maze represents the challenges that we all meet in search of what will make us happy. Those characters who read the writing on the wall were successful in the maze. Evangelization, education, and catechesis are the formal paths upon which young people learn flexibility, acceptance, tolerance, courage, forgiveness, and love. While the writing is not literally on our walls we do have guideposts such as the Ten Commandments and the joy of the gospel. Education in faith is the path to holiness, peace of mind, and belief in a loving God. In our lifetime change is fast and furious. We can nostalgically long for the way we were, or we can celebrate and embrace the future with a faith-filled, hope-filled acceptance of what lies ahead.
