The richness of the Hispanic/Latino culture provides an excellent opportunity to teach our children of the cultural diversity of our Catholic faith. There are beautiful traditions that are becoming more and more visible in the US Catholic Church.
One of them is the palm cross on Palm Sunday. In Latin American countries, craftsmen and women sit with their handmade crosses outside churches and marketplaces.
They sell all kinds of palm-made figures related to Palm Sunday and Holy Week. You can find a handmade crucifix, (made of palm), as well as simple crosses for the Palm Sunday procession.
Not everyone is as skillful but all of us can make the beautiful simple crosses with a palm leaf and take them home.
