Mom and Dad, we want to take a minute to applaud you for all you do to encourage your child’s success. We admire how you have stepped up to find the best school for your young learner, not because you have to, but because you want to. We respect that you come home after a long day at work and sit with your child to talk about the school day and how you can help with that challenging math problem or science project. Most of all, we thank you for being right there with us, celebrating your child’s academic and spiritual achievement every step of the way.
We know you’ve worked hard to instill core values in your child, teaching right from wrong and the value of education, and we know that your lessons didn’t stop just because your child now attends school. In fact, Catholic schools take those values seriously, and you can rest easily knowing that our curriculum is aligned to the traditions you continue to pass on. When it comes to teaching your child, we are the perfect partner — here’s how:
On the Classroom Level
What if you could have access to your child’s class information at any time of day or night? Most schools host Internet portals through their main website where you’ll find all this info at your fingertips. Log on to see grades and homework, as well as any special announcements (we know sometimes fliers get lost between the classroom and the bus stop). The school website will also tell you when open houses and teacher conferences are being held. After all, if we are going to do this together, we need to keep in touch.
On the School Level
We invite you to join the Catholic School parent-teacher organization, the Home and School Association (HSA).The name of the group itself reflects our inclusive approach to schooling that views both home life and academic life as essential contributors to your child’s learning. The goal of the HSA is to bring these worlds together, as well as to organize all the fun and fundraising activities throughout the year. The association is also a great resource for keeping on top of volunteer opportunities, school events, and special initiatives. Every school has its own HSA, and the minute you enroll your child in one of our schools, you immediately become a member.
On the State Level
Speak up in support of Catholic schools at the state level. The CT Federation of Catholic School Parents is an organization designed to protect and advocate for the rights of your Catholic school student to get the best education possible. The site offers ways for you to learn about these rights and share your opinion on the matter with legislators. It also provides links to resources, including the Federation’s social media sites and newsletter sign-up.
So as you can see, Mom and Dad, the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Hartford need your help. As a non-governmental entity, we have more authority over our curriculum than public schools are afforded. What this means is that through Catholic culture, not legislation, we are able to provide your child with a superior education that will prepare them for the classroom and beyond. What this also means is that you, as parents, really do have a voice in your child’s learning. Join us and let that voice be heard!
