In our day Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples” echoes in the changing scenarios and ever new challenges to the Church’s mission of evangelization, and all of us are called to take part in this new missionary “going forth.” Each Christian and every community must discern the path that the Lord points out, but all of us are asked to obey his call to go forth from our own comfort zone in order to reach all the “peripheries” in need of the light of the Gospel.

Deepen: Your understanding of what evangelization is - and what it is not!

Our evening will kick off with an address by Tom Quinlan to orient us around the concept of evangelization.

Tom Quinlan serves as ministry director for the 24 parishes in the Des Moines metro area, overseeing leadership formation, evangelization and adult faith formation.  From 2001 to 2018, Tom was catechetical director for the Diocese of Joliet (suburban Chicago), leading parish renewal efforts with a focus on family formation and an evangelizing approach to catechesis.  He holds an MDiv from University of St. Mary of the Lake.

Tom’s third book, focused on the Liturgy of the Eucharist, will be released this fall by Twenty-Third Publications.  (In 2016 he wrote Excellence in Ministry: Best Practices for Successful Catechetical Leadership and How to Talk to Children About the Mass.)  Tom has served on the boards of national Catholic organizations and is a speaker and consultant to dioceses across the US.  He lives in Iowa with his wife, Kristi, and their two little boys.

Interact: with various evangelization resources.

Speak with organizations who are "experts" on evangelization.

Just a few of the wonderful resources who will be joining us:

  • Divine Renovation
  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
  • Christlife
  • Evangelical Catholic
  • Forming Disciples in Mission (Archdiocese of Boston)
  • Office of Education, Evangelization and Catechesis
  • V Encuentro

Learn: from the experiences of other parishes.

Join the conversation!

Each parish is invited to send at least one person - but a "team" is highly encouraged.
