Advanced Placement Testing

All of the Catholic high schools within the Archdiocese of Hartford offer Advanced Placement Courses in a wide variety of subjects. The number and range of courses differ from school to school, but in the coming school year, Catholic high schools will offer anywhere from three to thirty-one Advanced Placement opportunities to upper level students. Among the offerings will be math, literature, modern and ancient language, history, psychology, science, art, music and computer science. More than 900 students across the Archdiocese participate in the Advanced Placement Program. Of those, an average of 75% receives a score of 3 or better granting them college credit in those disciplines.

In addition, most high schools have formed relationships with local colleges and universities, including the University of Connecticut, Albertus Magnus, Teikyo Post, the University of New Haven, University of Saint Joseph, University of Hartford, and Yale University that enable Catholic high school students to take courses at those institutions. There are as many models for this as there are schools involved, but in all cases, students of Catholic high schools who demonstrate exceptional academic ability have extraordinary opportunities to challenge themselves and get a head start on college.

Standardized Testing

Iowa Assessment®

Each spring, students in grades 3 through 7 in the Catholic elementary and middle schools of the Archdiocese of Hartford take the Iowa Assessments. The Iowa Assessments are norm-referenced achievement tests that assess students’ skills in Reading, Language, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. The tests assess both foundation skills and higher-order thinking skills. The results of the Iowa Assessment enable educators to assess the performance of their students in relation to that of a nationally representative student group from both the public and private sectors.

As in the past, Archdiocese of Hartford students' performance on all subtests of this battery exceeded the average score of students tested nationally.

The following results represent data as national grade equivalencies (NGE). A grade equivalent is a score that describes student achievement on a grade level scale.

Secondary – SAT’s

Congratulations to the Class of 2020 at the high schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford! When faced with challenges of pandemic proportions, including adapting to new forms of instruction and losing the traditions that distinguish senior year, the Class of 2020 persevered, remained focused, and continued to excel, achieving SAT scores measuring well above state and national levels!
